Research at the Lung Health Foundation
Following a strategic pause to re-envision our research program, we are excited to share that this upcoming fall, we will once again be launching new funding opportunities for researchers, starting with our Emerging Scholar Research Award. This initiative is rooted in our strong commitment to nurturing the next generation of scholars, marking a significant investment in shaping the future of lung health research in Canada.
Current funding opportunities
Partnership – Improving the care and outcomes of residents of Canada living with metastatic NSCLC
- The Lung Health Foundation, Pfizer, Lung Cancer Canada, and the Quebec Lung Association are collaborating to provide funding to support projects focused on improving the care of outcomes of residents of Canada living with metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) with a special focus on addressing health inequities.
- Up to $100,000/project
- The estimated total available budget related to this grant opportunity is $200,000

Career Establishment Research Award – Call closed
- Objective: To assist mid-career investigators with the operating support needed to carry out independent research of relevance to lung health.
- Up to $75,000/project
- 3 grants available

- Fall 2024 – Funding Starts
Better Breathing Student Travel Awards – Call closed
- Objective: To promote research capacity among graduate students conducting lung health research. This award challenges student researchers to communicate a compelling story about the impact of their research to an interdisciplinary audience without using jargon in three (3) minutes. Award recipients will be funded to attend the Lung Health Foundation’s Better Breathing Week 2024 and participate in a thesis competition

Emerging Scholar Research Award – Call closed
- Objective: To support promising investigators, early in their careers, with the operating support needed to carry out independent research of relevance to lung health.
- Up to $50,000/project

Research at the Lung Health Foundation
The Lung Health Foundation is currently redeveloping its research program to ensure alignment with a national focus and a new strategic plan.
We feel it is important to take the time needed to engage with research stakeholders, healthcare professionals, people with lived experience and decision makers to fully:
•Understand gaps in lung health research
• Expand the scope of the research program
• Develop sound program processes
• Develop a sustainable funding model, and
•Ensure alignment with a national lung health agenda
Over 2023, we will roll out funding opportunities to support our priority research areas in the respiratory field. They will be listed below as they become available.
