Lung Health Foundation Staff taking part in the #MyLungLife Hockey Challenge

Invitation for all ORCS Members

As you know, earlier this year, the Ontario Lung Association relaunched as the Lung Health Foundation in order to have a greater impact in the lives of those affected by lung disease.

This transition reflects a renewed commitment to our mission, and is part of a larger transformation for the organization as we prepare for the launch of a new and bold strategic plan to guide our efforts over the next five years and beyond in order to improve lung health in Ontario and across Canada.

As helping those affected by, and at risk of developing, lung disease is the sole reason we exist as an organization, the improvement of health outcomes must be the filter for every decision we make, and every dollar we invest.

With our new strategic plan, the Lung Health Foundation will adopt a uniquely integrated approach to improving the lung health of Canadians by identifying gaps and addressing them through:

  • Concentrating our efforts in asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and lung cancer, as well as key areas of prevention;
  • Modernizing our research program, broadening its scope, and better aligning it with our organizational priorities;
  • Driving policy and practice change;
  • Investing in urgently needed programming and supports; and
  • Promoting awareness about the lung health issues affecting everyone.
  • With a more clear and defined focus, everything we do will work in tandem towards the change we need to drive – from research and knowledge translation, to awareness and education, to direct programming and patient support, to advocacy.

As valued members of our societies, your support and participation in this plan will be key in helping us to achieve that change.

Late last month, we held a meeting of Lung Health Foundation, Ontario Thoracic Society and Ontario Respiratory Care Society leadership to review the new strategic plan, and to begin the process of identifying our respective needs and finding areas of mutual interest and common ground – all with the aim of redefining and strengthening our relationship.

And now we need to hear from the broader membership. Your insights and perspectives will be key in helping us to develop a clear mandate for the societies – one that details a powerful partnership united in improving lung health.

To ensure we get as much participation as possible, we’ll be hosting this engagement session on two dates, October 5 and 13 between 11:30am and 12:30pm. Please indicate your availability via Doodle poll at https://doodle.com/poll/g69di57f6i5anemz no later than August 21, 2020.

A copy of the workshop materials will be sent out closer to the meeting dates.

Thank you in advance for your support and participation.
